FIFA needs goal line technology

I'm incredibly glad that Germany defeated England in the round of 16 game on Sunday. I'm even more incredibly glad that the end result was not 2-1 in Germany's favor because that would have meant that the World Cup hopes of the English ended as the result of a blatantly bad call on the part of the referees. They blew an easy call that should have had the game tied 2-2 towards the end of the first half. Even though the missed goal did not wind up being the determining goal of the game (the Germans really did outplay the English) the fact that it was such a bad call almost certainly had a negative effect on the heads of the English side. They came out lackluster in the second half and really allowed the Germans to dominate. As time ticked away and they pressed for the equalizer they opened themselves up to a couple of nice German breaks that put the game totally out of hand.

It's terrible that a tournament with such worldwide appeal is being directed by such poor officiating. The game that followed between Argentina and Mexico also had a blatantly missed offside call on the opening goal by Argentina.  The goal should have been disallowed.  And these two examples are not the only ones from this years tournament.

Come on FIFA!  Get your heads out of your asses!

Wow, that's still going on? It's like that March Madness thingy. Heh.

But you'd think with the hooligans all over the world, the bad calls would be fewer and further between. I guess there's always a blind ref no matter which game is played, huh? One thing I was surprised at was learning that the brits hate the world cup, at least that's what some of the ones on BJ and Sadly No say.

Still going. Final match is July 11th. Speaking of hooligans if I recall correctly there was a player from a South/Central American team who was knifed to death because he scored a goal against his own team and cost them a victory. So I guess the refs have good security.

Don't know about the English. I had a bet with a colleague on the England/Germany game. A six of Guiness (he's half Irish) against a six of German Hefeweizen. And one of my office mates wife is English and she was apparently beside herself that they lost to the Gerries! Ha!

Argentina up next for Germany. Gonna be a tough one.

I'm sitting here listening to the Kagan hearings on my headphones and for the life of me I can't really figure out why.

A bunch of self-important blowhards mouthing off.

On both sides. But some...most actually... of the Republicans are just downright embarrassing.

Just found out there's gonna be a Netroots Nation sponsored poker tournament in Vegas! Might have to play.

Loves me some poker! My dad used to have a party every Saturday, which we loved because there would be all sorts of good snackies laying about next morning. He had the cool table, too, but then, in the '60s everyone had a wet bar in their basement. We grew up playing poker and hearts. Fun!

Yeah, not at all interested in Kagan. What's done is done, the rest is blabbing importantly for the camera. The suckier thing is Byrd's death just before finance reform comes up. Crap.

Obviously it's Obama's fault that Byrd died.

I knew it! Can't have anything nice since Obama usurped the throne, uh, White house...
